This Privacy Policy explains how Martin Gottweis ("Talksies", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Talksies website and service (the "Service"). If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
The short version
- We collect the messages you write in a room, and basic technical data. We do not require an account, a name, an email address, or a phone number.
- What you tell the mediator privately, before the room opens and in any private side-chat, is never shown to the other person. Messages you post in the shared room are.
- We use trusted third parties to run the Service: an AI provider (Anthropic), a database host (Neon), and a hosting platform (Vercel).
- We do not sell your personal information. We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure our advertising, which sets cookies; see the Cookie Notice.
- Rooms that have been idle for 30 days are deleted automatically. You can ask us to delete a room sooner through our contact page.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Conversation content. The messages you write to the mediator and in the shared room, including anything you choose to share about your situation. This may include sensitive personal information.
- Contact submissions. If you use our contact page, we store your message and, if you provide it, your email address.
Information collected automatically
- Room identifiers and seat cookies. Each room has a short, random id that forms its link. When you start or join a room, a small first-party cookie ties your browser to your seat in that room for 60 days. Anyone with the room link can join as the second person until that seat is taken, so share it only with the person you mean to.
- Abuse prevention. We store a hashed form of the IP address that created a room, used only to limit how many rooms one connection can create per hour.
- Technical and log data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may automatically process limited technical data such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.
- Advertising measurement. We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure whether our advertising leads people to start a room. When enabled, Google's tag sets cookies and shares limited measurement data with Google. It does not receive the content of your conversation.
See the Cookie Notice for details on the cookies we use and how to control them.
How we use information
- To run the room: hear each side privately, open the shared conversation, and keep it fair and on topic.
- To generate the mediator's responses, notes, and suggested rewordings.
- To respond to messages you send us through the contact page.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
What the other person sees
Talksies has two kinds of space. Your conversations with the mediator before the room opens, and any private side-chat where you and the mediator work on a message together, are visible only to you. The shared room is visible to both of you: messages you post there, the mediator's notes, and a neutral framing of the topic. If you choose to post a message over the mediator's concern, the other person sees it with a small tag saying so. Please use good judgment about what you share in the shared room.
Service providers (processors) we share data with
To run the Service, your data is processed by:
- Anthropic: the AI provider. Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the mediator's responses. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Neon: the database host where rooms are stored.
- Vercel: the platform that hosts and serves the Service.
- Google: we use Google Ads to measure conversions from our advertising. Google's tag sets cookies and processes limited measurement data (such as ad-click identifiers), but does not receive your conversation content. See Google's Privacy Policy.
These providers process data on our behalf, or as independent controllers in Google's case, under their own terms and security practices. We do not sell your personal information. Apart from the advertising measurement described above, we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
International data transfers
Our providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. By using the Service you understand your information may be processed outside your home country.
Data retention
Talksies is an early-stage product. Rooms are deleted automatically once they have been idle for 30 days, along with every message in them. You can ask us to delete a room or your contact submissions sooner through our contact page. Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.
Legal bases (EU/UK, GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract: to provide the mediated conversation you request.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and measure our advertising, balanced against your rights.
Your rights
EU/UK residents
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents
Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
To exercise any of these rights, reach us through the contact page. We may need to verify your request, which for an anonymous room typically means access to the room link from the browser you used.
Security
Access to a room is controlled by its link and by the seat cookie in your browser. We use reputable infrastructure providers and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you lose your browser data, your private resume link is the only way back into your seat, so keep it safe.
Children
The Service is not directed to children and is intended for users aged 16 and older (or the age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the Service, contact us and we will delete the data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
